The role
Pet Care Specialist
- Part-time, primarily weekdays
- Target availability roughly 10 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday
- Up to approximately 25 hours per week as our routes grow
- Hours vary with client needs and are not guaranteed
- Starting at $17 per hour
- Mileage reimbursement for eligible travel between client homes
What the job looks like
Pet Care Specialists travel between clients’ homes providing private dog walks and drop in pet care. Responsibilities may include:
- Walking dogs privately, not in pack walks
- Providing drop in pet care
- Following individual pet and household instructions
- Making sure client homes are secured properly
- Completing thoughtful visit updates
- Driving between client homes
- Working independently while remaining part of the Wholesome Hounds team
Who may be a good fit
This could be a great fit for someone who:
- Has meaningful weekday daytime availability
- Is comfortable driving between client homes and working independently once there
- Is comfortable with dogs of all sizes and personalities, and with New England weather year round
- Is a clear, professional communicator
- Is looking for ongoing, long-term part-time work, not something short term or seasonal
Professional pet care experience is helpful, but it is not required. Reliability, judgment, communication, safety, and willingness to learn are extremely important to us.
Requirements
- 18 or older
- A valid driver’s license
- Your own reliable, insured vehicle
- A smartphone with data for scheduling and client communication apps
- Able to walk, stand, bend, handle leashes, and stay physically active for much of the shift, with or without reasonable accommodation
Employment is contingent on successful background and driving record screening.
About the hours
Pet care schedules naturally fluctuate. Weekly hours are not guaranteed and may change based on client schedules, cancellations, vacations, seasonal changes, and business needs.
As our routes grow, there may be opportunities for up to approximately 25 hours per week.

Wholesome Hounds is a family owned pet care company that has been serving local families since 2008. We provide private dog walking, drop in pet care, home boarding and small group daycare. As our team grows, we’re looking for someone dependable, kind, and genuinely comfortable working with animals to help us keep that same personal, trustworthy feel.
